Frickin Lasers - Testing NEJE 40640 Dual Diode 40W Laser

Next to our 3D Printer a laser cutter/engraver was a tool that has long been on the wishlist. This will be another video series on how to DIY with of the shelf electronics and a surprising “hack” for the controller that gives plenty of processing power and connectivity, while still being ultra cheap.

After this weekends build-up of the controller, electronics and mechatronic, a couple of successful NEJE 40640 Dual Diode FAC 40W Laser fire tests ended the day. Now all that is missing is the frame and bearings and the modeling of the 3D printed parts that are needed to glue the CoreXY frame together.

ASUS ROG Strix 3080TI Disassembly

After waiting for almost a year, finally a GPU became available that will be the heart of the new video and rendering system: The ASUS ROG Strix 3080TI OC. The original cooling system has been disassembled now.

The next step will be to re-assemble it with 2 waterblocks for the front and back so that it can finally move into the “new” energy efficient system. This will be a huge upgrade from the old 1050TI.

AD584 vs. LM399 Voltage Reference Test Setup

One of the upcoming future projects is going to be the build of a high capacity 48V lithium battery bank. In order to be prepared and able to measure cell voltages with single digit mV precision, it became clear that the lab's multimeters may not offer high enough resolution or accuracy. So we are trapped in the chicken - egg situation where we don't have good enough equipment to verify our measuring devices.

Precision Voltage References to the rescue then.

But how stable and accurate are they? In order to help us and share what is learned with all of you, a cheap AD584 and a not so cheap LM399 “precision voltage reference” were purchased.

As you can see, so far (over the last 5 hours) the LM399 really wasnt worth the money…

New Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera DOA

This should have been the new cam for the lab bench to make it easier and more streamlined to record whats happening. Sadly, it arrived DOA, so the only new footage it could offer was how the dead sensor looks like.

Kudos to thomann.de, who not only made the RMA process easy, but also covered the shipping costs: https://www.thomann.de/de/blackmagic_design_micro_cinema_camera.htm

As soon as the replacement arrives, there will be an unboxing and more test footage of it,
so dont forget to Follow!

Building a new Render Beast

Doing videos for LBRY is taking a toll on the current hardware. In order to streamline publishing of more actual videos, Blender rendering, other CPU/GPU intensive visualizations as well as training advanced Neural-Networks, a new and far more beefy Machine is needed.

While at it, we might just build it like a tank as well, completely from the ground up, with custom frames/cases, optimized for highest efficiency, environmental compatibility and lifetime endurance. This picture shows only the cooling part, with the pump/reservoir in the middle, left and right to it two radiators will take care of business.
